Glow-in-the-dark headwear will save lives – this is the attitude of safety wear expert JSP, who has introduced a range of high visibility hats to protect employees working on dark sites.

The reflective, high intensity material used in motorway signage also features on the head protection. Incorporating strips around the hard hat exterior, the Evolite CR2 range maximizes visibility on dark rail, road, civil engineering and construction sites.

The helmets are offered in a wide range of colours, but its not about personal preference – each colour connotes a specific site task. Site managers can determine their own colour coding schemes, but to begin, orange usually denotes a banskman, and green normally indicates a first-aider. Red is for fire marshals and blue is typically used for contract agents or site managers.

This system standardizes helmet colour so that all workers could wear plain while helmets, with varying-coloured reflective strips added to distinguish different job titles.

While JSP had already been promoting their Evolite CR2 reflective stickers for headwear for a significant length of time, the company has only recently decided to extend this idea and promote the range according to different functions on the site.

Glow-in-the-Dark Helmets Will Protect Employees

JSP’s business development manager, Simon Apsey, said, “It’s amazing that such a simple, inexpensive, idea can make such a difference". He explained that it is usually the head that will be exposed to danger first, so this area of the body needs to be illuminated.“By putting coloured, highly- reflective, strips all round the helmet, JSP is making workers on our highways and construction sites visible in all conditions". He added that the company has received a very positive response from customers, and several leading contractors have implemented the system already as standard.

JSP is a leading independent European manufacturer of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) “above the neck” and a recognized leader for industrial head protection. The company’s mission is to develop innovative, quality safety products that improve occupational health and safety worldwide. Along with head protection, their products also protect face and eyes, hearing and respiratory.
