Eight-Story Industrial Building Pulverized. Atlas Copco Demolition Pulverizer Impresses With High Power And Good Handling

Recently a maintenance building belonging to a pharmaceuticals company in downtown Bielefeld was demolished using Silent Demolition Tools from Atlas Copco.

To keep noise levels for residents to a minimum, rather than hydraulic breakers the demolition contractors Hagedorn (www.abbruch-hagedorn.de) decided on a combination of a hydraulic demolition cutter and a pulverizer.

In the first demolition phase, a CC 2100 U demolition cutter was used to tear down the entire building. It was mounted on a CAT 330 C with a 20 m demolition boom which was long enough to reach even the upper stories.

The cutter was equipped with universal (U) jaws with teeth at the tips to crush the concrete and carbide blades in the rear section to cut through the rebar.

Once the building had been pulled to the ground, the pulverizer was brought in on a CAT 325 C to reduce the rubble and separate the concrete from the steel rebar.

Abraham Block, the excavator driver, was full of praise for the BP 2300 R pulverizer: Its not only powerful, the rotation unit also makes it really maneuverable. With such a wide jaw and large openings, the concrete passes through really well, leaving the rebar in the jaw. I really like it.

The pulverizers in Atlas Copcos BP series have service weights from 1950 kg to 4190 kg and have an angled jaw which makes them ideal for working in rubble and separating materials.

Jaw widths of 530 to 710 mm ensure a high throughput, while the standard speed valve makes for short cycle times.

The engineers who designed the pulverizers provided them with easy-to-replace teeth and blades to simplify maintenance and repair work.

Worn wear plates/shoes can be repaired by hard facing. On the BP 2300 and 3300 models they are also replaceable.
