Can you continue to pay CIS Card Holders Directly?
The Chancellor, in collaboration with various Tax Departments, is making it tougher for contractors to remain self employed and converting workers on CIS cards that they deem ‘Employed’ to a PAYE basis. The knock on effect of this is that the employing company/ end user may have to pay fines and then convert the worker to employee. The worker is forced to take home less money while the company has to make Employers NI contributions of 12.8%, as well as taking employment liability. Not an ideal situation!
The second issue, which remains a threat regardless of CIS and tax regulations, is the working Time Directive or Holiday Pay. It is a serious problem and unless addressed properly, the company can be liable to pay an extra 8.33% of income to each worker.
