New TEX Pneumatic Breaker Series: Solid Body, Solid Performance And Ease Of Use

Atlas Copco Construction Tools

The new handheld Atlas Copco TEX pneumatic breaker series is a marriage of the most effective features of the breaker range it replaces and a number of new, but well-proven features such as the solid body concept and the two-step trigger, SOFSTART™.

The solid body concept is already a success in some of Atlas Copco’s handheld breakers as well as in Atlas Copco’s light rig-mounted hydraulic breakers. The one-piece housing design contains fewer parts and allows a fast and easy on-site maintenance and service – only a few basic tools are needed.

Vibro-reduction is another very important issue. “We have been able to reduce the vibration level without any effect to the performance of the breaker” says Ingemar Johansson, product designer. With a new vibro-reducing system the vibration characteristics have been improved, allowing more trigger time for the operator at a given vibration exposure and even more productivity. The vibro-reducing features and Atlas Copco’s HAPS® (Hand- and arm-protection system) ensure that up to 75 % of the harmful vibrations never reach the operator.

One example: The performance of the new TEX 280PE medium sized breaker is 5 % higher than that of the previous TEX 28PE. And due to the improved vibro-reduction, the operation time can be extended by 20-30 % without increasing the vibration exposure compared to the old breaker.

All TEX breakers come with SOFSTART, a two-step trigger that gives full control when starting a cut – even under difficult conditions.

The slim profile of the silencer lets the operator see the point of the chisel and the work-piece. The integrated lubricator helps minimizing tool wear and is excellent for cold conditions, when it can be used for anti-freeze, such as Atlas Copco Air-Oil. It holds enough lubricant for an entire shift.

Jan Ohlson, Product Line Manager: “Market needs are changing. Especially vibro-reduction is becoming a big issue. In our new TEX range we have been able to combine excellent reliability with better performance. A new vibro-reduction system gives lower operator exposure and also the noise reduction is in the front line. The solid body concept finally, gives simplicity and reliability.”

Technical information:

The new TEX series comprises 8 basic models and 22 different versions to suit needs in different markets for shank sizes etc. Weights range from 15.5 to 31.5 kg.

Four of the basic models have advanced vibro-reduction while the remaining four come as noise-reduced standard models.
