Dynatest 6850 Runway Friction Tester

Dynatest International

The Dynatest 6850 Runway Friction Tester is an accurate and repeatable, self contained measuring device that provides continuous (or self-wetted) coefficients of slip friction on airport runways, with optional runway roughness measurement.

It is designed for maintenance testing to evaluate surface friction changes due to weather, high usage, aging, and contaminants such as rubber build-up in the touchdown zones.

Real time friction testing can be performed during such adverse weather as heavy rain, ice or snow.

Advantages:The 6850 is a fully instrumented front wheel drive minivan

The 6850 uses a Dynatest Two Axis Force Transducer mounted on a retractable fifth wheel assembly.

This assembly provides dynamic vertical load and horizontal tractive force measurement. The fifth wheel assembly is driven at 13% slip. As a runway measurement system, it meets all the FAA and ICAO specifications for friction measuring devices.System electronics include a laptop computer and colour graphics printer.

User-friendly Windows software allows the operator to enter test speed, printer scale, test method (FAA or ICAO), test type (manual or automatic) and annotate airfield test conditions for later reference.

The field program averages the true friction over 1/3 sections on the runway (ICAO program), or in 250ft. (76 m.) or 500ft. (152 m.) intervals (FAA program) average friction numbers, with continuous traces of friction, vehicle speed and water flow rate stored and printed out.
Friction numbers can be printed at every foot, meter or other desired intervals.
Mu data and speed are visible real time during the test.

The system includes a 150 U.S. gallon (600 litre) tank, positive displacement water pump and laminar flow water nozzle for wet pavement testing for up to 22,000 ft. (6,705m) of runway without refilling.
