Visitors to CORGI's stand at the construction show, Interbuild 2006, will be able to test their skills and knowledge across gas, electrics, plumbing, heating and ventilation in a fun and informative way - to mark the launch of the gas safety watchdog's new Competent Persons Scheme.
CORGI has created a special interactive competition for Interbuild 2006 which will ask trade professionals to point out the problems, mistakes or dangers they have to deal with every day - all hidden in the Spot of Bother house.
The CORGI virtual Spot of Bother house will be one of many ways for Interbuild 2006 visitors to learn about what is new in construction and to discover more about the government's latest legislation for the building sector, when the UK's premier construction event returns to the NEC in April.
Tim Ottridge, Managing Director of CORGI's Registration Schemes said: "Hosted on a series of screens on CORGI's stand, those taking part in Spot of Bother will be able to show their expertise by spotting the problems and answering some technical questions.
"There will be a test for each of the trades - gas, electrics, plumbing, heating and ventilation - and fabulous prizes for the best performer in each. The 'Spot of Bother' winner will win a star prize."
CORGI is also launching two new Competent Persons Schemes at Interbuild 2006 in response to the government's move toward self-certification. The schemes cover plumbing and ventilation and complement CORGI's existing scheme for electrics, which was introduced last year.
The 'one-stop shop' offering means that tradesmen qualified in one or a number of these areas can now apply to carry an official CORGI badge.
The launch means that from April 2006 multi-skilled CORGI installers and other trade professionals working in electrical, plumbing and ventilation, in England and Wales, will be able to self-certify their work through CORGI. This will save the time and expense of personally having to submit a building notice and make contact with Local Building Control.
Explained Tim: "CORGI has been the country's gas safety watchdog for more than 30 years and is a trusted consumer brand. Set against this background, it seemed a natural step for CORGI to develop Plumbing and Ventilation Competent Person Schemes to complement our electrical offering launched last year."
Interbuild Event Director Gordon Thomas said: "Interbuild 2006 will be the ideal place for tradesmen to not only find out about the latest new innovative products on the market place but also to learn more about legislation which has such a big impact on the construction sector. The exhibition will also feature the Builders Information Zone, named the Biz, which will offer a unique forum for information and professional advice - all in one purpose-built zone.
"This is sure to be popular for all the tradesmen and small businesses which form the backbone of the British construction industry."
