Capita Symonds

Capita Symonds is providing multidisciplinary design services to the Direct Route consortium selected by the National Roads Authority (NRA) as preferred bidder for the €425m Limerick Southern Ring Road Phase II in Ireland.

The project, procured as a Private Public Partnership as part of the development strategy for National Primary Roads, will involve the construction of 10km of tolled dual carriageway and will include a fourth crossing of the River Shannon; an immersed tube tunnel approximately 900m in length.

Capita Symonds will be responsible for the design of the tunnel and tunnel approaches, its service buildings and M&E installations and also the design of Intelligent Transport Systems and lighting for the entire project.

LimerickPreliminary design commenced in March 2006 and it is anticipated that construction will begin in August 2006, with completion in 2010.

Direct Route, which comprises Lagan Holdings Limited, Roadbridge Ltd, John Sisk & Sons (Holdings) Ltd and Strabag AG, will then operate and maintain the road for 30 years.
