Setting The Standard To Reduce Carbon Footprint

Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe (NV)

It is estimated that by the end of this century carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in the atmosphere will have at least doubled. The temperature will also have increased by 1.4-5.8 degrees centigrade.

With this in mind, society is increasingly aware of the changes needed to be made to reduce CO2 globally. Hitachi Construction Machinery recognises these problems and its responsibility to act accordingly.

It recently launched the Zaxis-3 range of excavators. These models comply with the European Stage III emission regulations by further combusting exhaust gases to reduce particle matter output and levels of nitrogen oxide. It has also since developed the environmentally friendly Hitachi Zaxis ZX70LC battery concept excavator.

This innovative machine will be on display for the first time at Bauma - the world's largest exhibition for the construction and mining industries - from Monday 23 until Sunday 29 April.

The AC electronic excavator is ideal for indoor work as no fumes are omitted from the machine. The battery is charged by connecting an external AC to a plug which is built into the main body. One charge allows the machine to excavate 60m3of earth.

"Hitachi hopes to lead the way in providing more environmentally friendly machines," comments Manager Corporate Communication Raymond Hendriks. "We hope that this concept will attract visitors to the Hitachi stand. It will also help to raise awareness of the importance of reducing CO2emissions in the construction industry."
